The Careel 18

The Careel 18 Mark 2 was intended to provide a larger cabin space. This was achieved through an additional 2 inches of freeboard. Soon after, a 186 kg cast iron center board was added to make the yachts much stiffer than their predecessors. But in the end the Mark 2 was a stop-gap measure with only 28 boats being built before the introduction of the Mark 3. Despite this, the Mark 2 in general is often the fastest of the Careel fleet and favoured by the racers, blending the stiffer keel of the Mark 3 with the lighter body of the Mark 1.
