Thanks Don! The weather station is installed at the radio base on Swansea Heads to help radio operators advise boaties as to conditions at the bar. The data collected is also forward off to BoM who apparently use it in some way. Then our IT guy found the software that drives that site and figured lots of other people could find it useful. He's not wrong! I reckon that's THE best place to look up current and recent wind strength/direction. You just need to bear in mind that it's right on the coast and up high on the roof of a 2 story building on a headland. So within the Lake maybe knock a few knots off for anything with east in it.
We do a bit of that background stuff that nobody knows about. For instance, in the last few weeks I found we also feed data into the worldwide AIS system via www.marinetraffic.com
