Tune / Practice Day at Wangi.

Postby don47 » Sun Aug 20, 2017 9:14 am

For those interested in a tune up & practice day for the soon to be held C/ships at Wangi please note the 10th Sept 17.
Weather permitting, meet at the b/ramp (off Kent Pl. Wangi) by 11am, with preferably the boat on the water & the mast stood.
NB: Please be very mindful of the Power Lines located close to the ramp.

Sorry Ol Mate, you miss out unless you can make a special pre C/ship trip down, its only a 2k round trip sponsored by bizz.
Rob & I offer accom. to help reduce your costs.
Up to you Buddy, the beer will be good at the RSL afterwards as well!

Goodo John, see you then with a few others ! Not Trotts of course,, who is no doubt green with envy ! :P
Sunday the 10th Sept. is simply being thought of as a relaxed type of informative occasion. To let those interested know what to basically expect on the day I thought we'd start by checking over a few important things to do with rigging first, mast rake, tensions & so on.
Then have a bit of a general session about sail shape & set, handling, balance & weight distribution plus hiking together with some Q & A time.
From there we'll probably hit water & do a bit of training / practise with tacking, gybing, pole work, ect, around a few close set marks or similar.
When we're ready & had enough of the close set stuff we'll maybe group sail to a bit more of a distant mark perfecting.
After returning to shore & packing up we should then all enjoy a quick chat over a lemonade in the RSL beer garden perhaps before departing for home.
Don.

I'm still saying weather permitting as its been very blowy recently but, Sunday report shows at this stage far lighter conditions which will be acceptable. Give me a call Sat evening if unsure however, I'll be advising (hopefully not gambling) here as well.
Anyway for those coming along or intending to compete at Wangi shortly please have another look at: "Tuning & racing tips, get ready for Wangi" topic on site. Those vids give so much, easy understood info that you can utilise & put into practice.

Righto, looks like tomorrow going to be not to bad. The BOM saying light E breezes swinging SE in arvo. 15 to 20 kmh.
If we find different & not to our liking for practice sailing we can enjoy a bit more nattering about this & that, so all good.

Swansea Heads shows a smidge under 10 knots from the SE and 17 degrees at midday. Sounds like glorious weather for a sail.

What a great bunch of instruments Max.
Yep,, we were lucky with the weather, it had to stop blowing hard one day & so why not today.
The breeze & the day itself was quite perfect for our purposes of training & practice.
We didn't all get to do exactly as thought might but, we all enjoyed the time, the conditions & some us a nice coldie afterwards.
Thanks to those who came along, showing their keenness to hone some skills.
John Dwyer drove especially, all the way from Kogarah & of course we had a few locals participate.
