Byrds,

For family stays I can recommend the cabins and villas at the Wangi Holiday Park. It's right at the end of the peninsula and has a pretty good ramp for launching your boat. It's a short drive into town to the shops, pub, RSL, etc where most of the fleet will be. I used to launch my 18 there, anchor off the beach and tie the stern off to a tree ashore. Or you can pull the boat up onto the trailer at days end and keep it parked near the cabin. http://lakemacholidayparks.com.au/park/wangi/

Racers & Cruisers,, now is the time (if you haven't already) to really start thinking hard about getting your boat, accommodation (if required), travel plans, paperwork completed with regards to Entry Form & Dinner, ect, all sorted & known.
Take the time to read all that is covered in the recent Careel Newsletters whether a 'Racer', a 'Cruiser' &/or both as this whole massive event is fast approaching & you don't want to be disappointed that you missed out on something or didn't realise this or that.
For example:
Note the Dinner on the 23rd Sept. Sat. evening & the Cruise week plan (NB NOR "FOR CRUISERS" ) for after the racing w/end basically put together/designed & being looked after mainly by celebrity couple "Cook & Trotter" along side our social & other cruising staff.
Also note the following w/end & what is on offer there with regard to the NHTYA 3-6hr regatta plus its showing of the Rugby League G/Final on a big screen at Styles Pt with BBQ.
Then of course if time allows &/or you wish to after participating in all the above you may decide to travel up to & take part for a few days in the second half of ' The Clarence River Classic '. Some of our visiting from Qld & Nthn NSW are already planning on joining the classic.

Don is on the money.....

A huge two week extravaganza awaits us.......

Hard racing on Lake Macquarie for two days.....
Bumming around for the rest of the week....
-fishing
-cruise around Pulbah Island
-long lunch at a pub
-sunset trips heading home
-nana naps
-coffees overlooking the lake
-passing a beer between boats on a gentle run
-a shark sighting
-talking bulls&*t

then......

The most leisurely pub crawl ever invented....

A whole week on the Clarence
-Wide river
-deep water
-always sheltered
-pontoons every night
-draft beer at every stop
-steaks every night
-cows
-sugar cane
-calamari and chips while watching the whales breach
-poor sailing company
-luxury cabins
-a ferry
-flat water
-sleep ins
-cheap accommodation on the boat
-no dragging anchors
-no worries

So if you were just thinking of coming you are half way there....

Just come....best decision you ever made!

Well some have had their bookings made with regard to accom for awhile. Birds (Emu), Trotters, Cooks, Krivacic's, Marshall's & many others are all set ready to arrive & move in.
Of course, many others will be wanting to stay on their boats ready to enjoy cruising activity & the Muster side of things at a moments notice.

Whatever your reason for attending Wangi, the C/ships, Muster or both, please do assist us by getting those Entry Forms filled & sent in, with importantly your details & payment for the Saturday Night Dinner at the Wangi RSL Club.

All matter to be completed is included on the Entry Form which is provided in your Newsletter.
Don't delay or be late please, do it asap so as we & the Wangi RSL need to know how many of us to cater for.
Yes,, we will try to accommodate any late comers for the likes of racing &/or the dinner but, lets avoid that if at all possible as I get a tad funny about my food & want to enjoy devouring all of my own steak & not share especially, after a hard day of racing !! Of course, its not just about the tucker either as the club will be setting our room & if they have to rearrange or find extra seating, well it makes matters easier by knowing.

So fill in all the necessary, get it sent in to Lindsey our Race Secretary & be prepared to enjoy a great time in good company.
If you have any problems simply call either Lindsey, myself or other committee. :D :D

Well, the C18's are building up a decent quality field of boats & number for the event/s however, the C22's have to date been slow off the mark.
Normal entries close on Fri 15th before we move into a Beach entry situation which costs an extra $25 for the late entry especially,, if you wait till on the day & just before briefing. Details are all on Entry Form info in your Newsletters.
We always observe a bit of extra grace time because of Aust. Post & late delivery but, if you want to save yourself some money get your entry in now. As mentioned earlier we also need to know of your plans to take part so we can pass on & inform numbers for our Sat night Dinner.
Best hurry up if you want to participate :!:

A great time was had by all those who bothered to race & we certainly enjoyed the cold beer plus good decent meal at the Wangi RSL afterwards on the Saturday night.
Winds on the Saturday proved to be very different from many of the forecasts reported on various sites & remained fairly light during the day.
A good number of us managed to even find a huge hole that developed at the bottom of the course in the last from which some could not escape.
Three races were sailed on the Saturday with heavy conditions on the Sunday morning forcing an easy made decision to cancel further racing & call the event/s. The heavy NNW conditions eased somewhat during the later part of the morning but, then swung around & came in from southerly directions.
Obviously, if a greater number of races were sailed the results particularly on Handicap would have likely been different in the 18's especially.
However, the results for both C/ship events saw:
C22. Roobarb finish first over Curlew 2 on both scratch & handicap.
C18. Ist on H/cap was Syntax. 2nd was Storm & 3rd was Black Sheep.
1st on scratch was Storm. 2nd was Honey Ryder & 3rd was Black Sheep.
Congrats to all winners & a big thankyou to those who put in the effort to compete &/or attend the Muster.
Without people putting in effort to prepare their boat, travel to the venue & take part in proceedings well,, we just don't have a successful event at all. So thanks again to all who attended & a special thanks to those who particularly drove the bigger distances to do so.
I'd like to give personal thanks to also those who assisted in whatever manner especially Lindsey O as Race Sec. (fantastic effort Linds,, especially when you had to deal with a crook husband plus moving house all in the previous week) & my wife Robyn who manned (womaned) the sign on /off table plus the shore line duty just in case needed for emergency or anything else while we were all on the water. Also a big thankyou to NHTYA for running our event,, we'll reciprocate the following w/end with the 3 - 6 Hr races about Lake Mac.
Last but, certainly not least I'd like to thank especially my two beautiful daughters who haven't done any real competitive sailing for years. Because of all our busy lives we only managed one real practise session before the event itself & they just shone brighter & brighter with every tack & jibe showing up their fathers old body weaknesses. They'd both come to see me some months back & said that they wanted to both do the crew work & sail as a team with their Dad. How could I possibly say anything but, yep let's do it together ! :D :D

Brilliantly organised and run event. We enjoyed the close racing with Don and and the girls on storm. There is some very good sailing pedigree in this family. Looking forward to the next series at Lake Catharaba. Will it be a Ray family event again?

Thanks Dave for the kind words & acknowledgement.
I think my dear Ol Dad had much to do with the sailing like & interests that are through members of my family. I wish I had half his skills !
The girls & I particularly liked our drag races with you upwind but, didn't so much enjoy watching you catch & pass when we fell into that big bloody hole that swallowed a bulk of the fleet.
This year, again the competition was even closer through the fleet really speaking with a number sporting new gear, setups & sails.
I've been informed that already some have placed orders for new sails & so they'll improve their speed.
What of the speed that Denis & Adrian from Wagga had, they scared us all & like a number of others will certainly be a force to be reckoned with next time we meet.
Once again, I thank you & all who travelled, competed &/or assisted in whatever capacity. We had a good quality bunch of C18's competing however, the 22's need to get more involved & supporting of each other. Good onya Norm & Kim for waving the 22 flag.
It was just a shame that the Sunday blow ruined that days racing for us as we'd all had made big efforts to be in attendance plus the organising is a hell of a lot of work & you'd really like to see something substantial from it racing wise especially. Of course we all enjoyed the comradery, the socialising & everything else organised.
Don.
