Postby byrdsworth » Sat Feb 04, 2017 8:27 am

Hi

I remember seeing somewhere a design for a spring loaded lock for the forward hatch

Can't seem to find it ...

has anyone got a photo or drawing of how it works ... ??

Cheers

Byrds,

You want something that looks like this, only smaller and preferably in stainless. Throw away the catch part of it because you only want the spring loaded bolt. https://www.bunnings.com.au/zenith-galv ... h_p4081054

I think I made mine using a small stainless sliding bolt and added a spring.

For safety you need to be able to open the hatch from the inside or outside so run some wire or light line from the bolt to the outside back of the hatch (drill a small hole). Pulling on the wire from either side will release the latch. For security, put some kind of clip between the wire and the bolt so you can unclip the wire. That prevents opening the hatch from outside when not sailing.

Does Vern still make the kit, I need one, looks like Byrdy does and I'm guessing Trotts too...
