Have just bought a Careel 18 local here in Logan south of Brisbane.
It has been sitting for many years tho thankfully, had a cover over it that all tho worn did give it some protection.
The state of the trailer appears to be the reason as it had a wheel bearing minus rollers, rims and springs rusted away along with 2 cross bars.
There is no hull-build date tag on the boat tho the main sail has the number 50 stitched on it, as it only has 1 hatch (above the toilet) I think it is an early model.
Trailer appears to be original, made by Messent Trailers Sydney. It has no id numbers or tags either.
This is yacht number 7 owned by our family and second for me personally, I was raised of 5 yachts and 2 light houses as a kid.
I would like to find out it's past, build date and hull number.

Check out the boat register on this site for some clues...Sounds like a Mark 1!

The number could be on a tiny plaque in one of lockers in cockpit or look under floor of cockpit maybe painted on.... Yes a Mk1 but do the sliding hatch up grade and a few modifactions like original rudder and will make sailing a lot easier...

I have looked in the port locker e.g. built in esky and the tag is missing tho the pins that held it are still there.

Sounds like you will have to claim number 50 Sequester Mick! Another clue is the width of the keel plate. Is it half inch or three quarter? Only Mk I's before number 150 had half inch although some of those have been retrofitted with three quarter inch plates over the years.
