Mast Dimensions for 18ft

Postby Reg Davies » Tue Aug 14, 2018 12:17 pm

Hi

Im a New member just joined the group .
I have inherited a Careel 18 ft , without a mast .
So i am trying to find out what length the mast should be and whether it has spreaders , and how many stays etc .
So am trying to find a second hand equivalent in NZ.
Sail seem to be 6.9 length :D .
May need to adjust another type.
As not so many careels in NZ

So im from , shaky Isles , ( Auckland , NZ )

Ex small dinghy sailer . getting back into sailing .
So boat been in water and floats .
We dropped the centre board and then couldnt get up .
so need to check the pulley ropes .
Only have one rope connected .

So any advice much appreciated

Reg

Hi Reg and welcome!

Sorry, can't help you much with the mast questions other than to say yes, you will need spreaders. The older C18s didn't have them but I gather that the mast section they used is no longer available.

Sometimes it's amazing what one can miss on this site, sorry Reg.
If you still need some measurement & ideas on C18 sticks please let us know & I'll see about supplying.
Can tell you now that no back stays are required however & that there are 2 side stays (upper & lower) each side of mast plus two forestays again upper & lower.
Don.
