Overnighter or two during school holidays?

Postby rseydler » Tue Sep 13, 2011 3:49 pm

Hi all,

I posted this on TSP and forgot about here...

September/October school holidays are almost on top of us. Unfortunately we won't make the whale watching tour this year.

Just curious as to who would be keen to meet up for an overnighter or two somewhere in Moreton bay. I was thinking Peel or Moreton but open to suggestions. Anywhere the kids can spend the day playing on the sand/water is good with me.

Depending on how things go (first overnighter for the kids) we might actually do two trips during the holidays.

Qld holidays start 19th to the 30th. I have managed to score the week of the 26th off work (damn global deployments!) so weather dependant we will probably be making way on the Monday or Tuesday for a night or two.

Big tides that week too....

Ron

Thinking of doing the long haul from Sandgate to Peel... Anyone done that trip before and happen to remember how long it takes?

Other option is to put in at Manly and sail down.. that might be the easiest on the kids.

Looking to head out on Tuesday.

I'll head out on Monday if I don't have to work on the weekend.

This is all weather pending of course (looks good so far). Having to manage boat and two young kids is best done in the right conditions :)

I did a memorable sail from Sandgate to Canaipa Point when I first got the boat back in 2003.

We headed out for a four day cruise south to the following program:

Day 1 Headed out in stiff northerly and retreated to the QCYC bar for the day.
Day 2 Strong Northerly 6am Departure from Sandgate, 9am Breakfast at RQYS Manly, 1pm lunch at Horseshoe Bay Peel, 5pm Dinner at Russell Island....an amazingly swift sailing surfing down the big rollers.
Day 3 Wind changed to South - 8am left Canaipa Point, Lunch at Peel, Camped at RQYS (Caught a big mackerel on a spinner off Peel)
Day 4 Manly to Sandgate

What a blast!!!

Wow 3hrs to get from Sandgate to RQYS. You must have been scooting along very well! Unfortunately we never even got in the water. I picked the wrong week to have off.

Out for sail this weekend though. Need to hose the dust off the boat first.
