Definitive List of Changes between Models?

Postby ricdanger » Tue Nov 17, 2015 6:05 pm

Hi everyone, first time here but long time over on TSP.

I'm interested in the Careel 18 as my sailing club limits the size of boats to 18ft.

There are some nice and very nice boats for sale at the moment and I really would like to understand the key differences between each model MK1 MKII MKIII

The "specs" page here indicates they get 100kg heavier each model but for all I know that could be in the weight of the trailer!

Can anyone enlighten me or point me in the direction of the materials?

Cheers,
Ric

Tic,

Go to the Introduction section and check out the Careel 18 boat register.

It lists out the main modifications as you go through the numbers.

If you are racing then a Mark 1,2 is they way to go. The shaped 120kg plate is optimum in my view for most conditions.

I had a Mark 1 64 kg Centre Board and she was fast in light airs but a handful above 15knots.
I now have a Mark 3 with 184kg Centreboard and more weight in the hull which makes for roomy and stable cruising but she needs to be above 15knots to be competitive!

Really great boats and will hold on to mine till the end of time!

Ric,

You can also check this thread in the forum. It lists the major changes and roughly when they happened in terms of hull number.
