Centre Board Repairs report

Postby byrdsworth » Sat Aug 14, 2010 6:09 pm

Hi Guys

I have been making some progress with the centre board pivot issue

This first photo shows the odd shaped hole in the inner glass on the
CB Case... after I had used a hole saw to carefully cut out around the pin
...I removed the drill bit from the middle of the hole saw ...
Image

This next photo shows the CB as it was lowered down out of the case..
Image

And the huge hole in the CB ... 22 MM Dia and slightly odd shaped..

I made a bush out of high density plastic .... made it slightly bigger and
hammered it into place ... then drilled a 12mm ... then a 16mm hole.
Image

Next I made these bushes to allow the bolt to be removed..

I put the CB back in and jacked it up and got it in the right position
then I used a piece of 16mm dowel with a hole drilled in the centre
and used a small hole saw .... to drill out hole on the inner skin of the
CB case... so the smaller part of the above bush would fit snugly in
place...
Image

Next I used a round wire brush attachment on the cordless drill and
cleaned up the glass on the inner case... and epoxied the bushes into
place with the bolt through to hold it all together
Image

Still aways to go but so far so good ... next will be to fill the area around
the bushes with epoxy and matt.. then I will get 2 ss plates made up
to cover the whole area and tighten the bolt up to them ...

Cheers

Hi .. just me again

Here are some shots of the finished product...

The ss plates are sealed with polyuretane sealant .... and there is a rubber
o ring between the nut and the bolt head and the ss plate...

I guess I will see if it leaks when I get her in the water...
I have lowered and raised the CB a few times and it seems to be working nicely..

Hi Byrd's,

Are you using a smaller diameter bolt then the original 19mm bolt? Or did you drilled out the hole in the centreboard to fit the bush?

Hi

I used a 16 mm bolt bolt ...

the original hole was larger and an odd shape ... i made the bush slightly larger and hammered it in
then drilled it out starting with smaller hole and working up to 16mm
