Thought I'd give this post one last breath of life.

Keel Case Repairs to Ivana have been completed and she has had her first good test at the biggest qld careel raft up last weekend.

Here are pics of the final result;

That's Sikaflex underneath perspex covering the pivot pin

The old glass was epoxied to the new ply and epoxy bog used to fill the gaps. A strip of matt (barely visible) was epoxied along the length of the case at the the bottom, tieing the floor to the casing

if you think you keels are the real deal, DON'T look in Bruce's Song of Freedom, apparently part of his centreboard case is clear so you can see and quake at the work of a professional, Mark C did and he bought a Compass 28!

You won't be able to do the same with Grabs but just be carefull, when the sun is in the right angle rumour is that even welding masks won't stop you from being blinded by the reflected flash.

I have been studying this string for the last few days and have realised the vast amount of good information it contains that applies to probably all of us .. even if we don't realise it yet? Because of this, I have made it a Sticky, at least for the shortt term future.

One question, I didn't quite understand? Can you put a dinghy circular inspection port in front of the Sampson post as well as in the aft end of the false floor?

Can't see why not. The cabin sole is separate from the hull and there is a gap between the two (and if you're getting water in there then that proves there's a gap). The only problem could be that the gap is small, making it difficult to install the inspection hole.

Couldn't you put it in the floor alongside the pivot pins?

How about that for prestige - my keel is now a Sticky

I actually partly started to write-up the whole experience with lots of pictures and extra info about pulley systems and epoxy -one day I will finish it and attach.

As for the space under the floor, there should be a picture somewhere in this post which shows the big hole I cut forward of the sampson post and also a picture of the gap below the false floor. I would say it is at least 2 inches for the most part along the centreline. I also thought that the area in front of the sampson post would be a good place for some lead balast to hide away......(oops that was supposed to be kept secret from the NSWelshman)
