Re: Careel Price Guide

So much these days depends on the overall condition of the hull, how good is the trailer & sails, the mast, rigging & fit out, whats included, etc, etc.

I see you've just purchased mk1 Suitus.

Re: Replacing cable Molco model 102 winch

Well I'd refrain from replacing the cable with wire.
I'd use Dyneema for trailer/boat winch & either Spectra or Dyneema for the keel winch.
Just pull out the old & refit the new using strong hand tension & when you get to use the loading will reel itself up as normal.

Re: c18 mk1 hervey bay

Another couple of things that I'd like to add to Herbs valuable info & advice would be to purchase a C18 with a bigger keel in it plus one with a decent & larger non standard rudder. The extra weight under the boat won't go astray in the vast openness of the Bay, the Sandy Strait, etc & ...

Re: Hi Everyone

BTW John,, regards the antifoul removal. I had to go check on this product, as have some in my shed but, once when I needed to perform a removal myself a fella at a major shipwrights here in Newcastle area recommended to me Peelaway 8 (google it). You can purchase a 15kg bucket of the stuff with kit...

Re: Hi Everyone

Well, that's amazing John. That boat had been posted For Sale for a while, sitting out in the open there at Bargo. I made an enquiry about it at one stage but, the owner wasn't able to furnish me with to much detail at all, especially its number, so I let it slide as wasn't also to interested in yet...

Re: Hi Everyone

Gee,, that's very interesting indeed John. No 1, where did you come by her, not Bargo by chance ? I've knowledge as to the whereabouts of No 2. I believe it is, might be 3 however. Interestingly, whichever it is (2 or 3) it is still with the same family who bought her originally. It's also very inte...

Re: Recommendations on boat builders familiar with keel pin repair?

Smiffy,, you won't need to fg tape over the entire length as long as you rough up & fill individual holes properly. Yes, water will simply squirt into the boat or underfloor if boat sitting in water. Fitting inspection ports as mentioned above by Max will allow for quick checking plus a realisin...

Re: Looking to buy a Careel

Sorry to correct you Max but, the difference in headroom between the Mk's in C18 does not equal 6". Basically, the headroom difference between a Mk1 to a Mk3 equals 4" or 100mm. As I understand this came about by the hull being increaed by 2" or 50mm in gunwale height from the Mk1 to ...

Re: Recommendations on boat builders familiar with keel pin repair?

Andy, there could be a number of things going on there as has been mentioned & you'll have to be a bit methodical in searching out the problem/s. Sounds like this is certainly a bit more than the common Mk1 splash out of the top front cable/rope hole in the case for the keel system. I'd also be ...
