Re: C18 Mk 2 For Sale in SA

By the divider in the front windows it looks an earlier mk1, the sail number suggests mk1 as well. Looks in good condition, quite new motor and sliding hatch conversion.

Re: Keeping C22 on a mooring

For some reason I could not edit the last. I should have said the early C22 keel pin apparently could fail and was inadequate to tighten enough to ‘assist’ with sealing out water ingress to the case ply structure. Consequently the hole can even elongate causing misalignment and even worse leaking/ab...

Re: Keeping C22 on a mooring

Thanks Max The inspection hatches are a good idea. The trouble is, where the water comes from to fill those voids. Early C22s had a design error in regard to the keel pin being too small and worse, being glassed in. Thankfully many were retrofitted with the later design. If not, the glass cracks, an...

Re: Keeping C22 on a mooring

A truly excellent choice would be a fixed keel Careel, a thing I have always listed after myself to add to the collection. I am however planning a Viking funeral that somehow incorporates the Patrol and Ethel.

Re: Keeping C22 on a mooring

Dear Sir Please see the threads on keel repair and centre case repair. All of these problems are the result of mooring a boat not designed for that purpose. It is however your boat to destroy as you wish. Depending on condition and mooring location, these problems will begin their inevitable destruc...

Re: Rainwater ingress

On mine it was the hull/deck join and ended up all the places you describe. Fixed years ago by epoxying the join behind the chain plate former inside and taking off the rub rail timbers and fitting the plastic mouldings the later C22s (like both of yours') have standard. The mouldings were completel...
Definitely go spectra mate ! You don't want stretch or failure. My 18 is fitted with 4mm spectra to the halyards. Not sure if you're 18 or 22 and that might sway your size choice somewhat. Some 22 guys could best advise if that's your requirement.
5mm Spectra on mine...

Don't worry, there's still the low flying Maricat out of Manno SC isn't there. He didn't have anything more to prove or win so moving on is the right thing to do!

Re: Moving to Brisbane

Dave and Lisa I reiterate the welcome. Manly pretty much is a suburb devoted to sailing. I love sailing Lake Macquarie and there really is only one place that offers more to trailer sailers and that is Moreton Bay. Manly is centrally located so all of the alternatives are there, North, South and Eas...

Re: New Sail Number

The prefix for RQYS boats is RQ. I've seem MB on several of the Moreton Bay Trailer Boat Club yachts so I suppose that is their's and WM on a few of ours so that's probably ours. On mine it's this funny C thing with the number 22 in it.

Re: Full batton mainsail

We do a lot of single handed racing and full battens make things a lot easier. If the battens have been tapered properly, light airs are no problem at all. I do not think full battens make a sail any faster so the racing rules are silly. If someone goes for a monster roach it won't work on the C22 b...

Re: Sails Wanted C22

Depends what you want to do but a triradial Dacron No.1 would be the best all-rounder. As James mentions the Mylar one is 10 years old now and still going strong but they are hard work to tack if you aren't diehard, up to 10kts racing. The full size No.1 for a short is a monster that actually sheets...
