Re: Keel up or down on permanent mooring

Hi Marcus and welcome to the forum! Someone who kept his boat on a mooring told me that keel up is definitely the way to go. The main reason for this is that it's very hard to antifoul up inside the case properly and so you will probably get marine growth in there. In his case, it got to the point w...

Re: Wanted - Careel 18 (Sydney area)

The closest C18 to Sydney that's currently listed is up near Newcastle but if that's no good for you then keep checking in. There may be another coming up for sale in Sydney. I'll leave it there because that may or may not happen but if it does, we'll try to make sure it's included in these listings.

I like my 2016 Mitsi Challenger Paul. But yeah... replacing the timing belt at 100K was an expensive exercise. Not looking forward to doing that again.

Re: Main Halyard

Is there a cleat on the mast near where the halyard exits? It's been a really long time but I seem to remember my C18 originally having a main halyard that was like that, with the halyard exiting the mast some distance off the deck and being cleated off on the mast. I do remember attaching a boom ba...

BARGAIN C22 For Sale in NSW

Stuff all information and only one photo but it looks like a C22S. But check the price! I think they may be missing a zero!! The little bit of description that there is seems to imply that she's a fixed keeler. She's not Silkie (beautifully repainted in yellow if I remember correctly) or Catch 22 (l...

Re: Keel case plywood ?

Despite the firm fit of the pin water could easily get into the ply core, from the ocean side, as the pin "worked" over time. Hey presto!!! Thanks for that confirmation. Was there a difference in the way the C22 centerboard and keel case were constructed? There's some mention in the plans...

Re: Keel case plywood ?

Ian,

The ply isn't in contact with water, it's a sandwich. The ply has layers of fibreglass on both the cabin side and the water side. The cabin roof, decks and a few other areas (eg transom) are similar.

The owners advise that they have decided to keep this boat for the time being and so it is no longer for sale.

Hi Steve and welcome to the forum!

Thanks we've captured that info in the register. The info for C18/118 is especially welcome because it has sorted out some info we had about her which was clearly wrong.

Re: Jib furler height

Ron, If this is on your C22 then first thing to be aware of is that most C22s don't have a furler so your arrangement will be a setup that is particular to your boat. That said, the comments for C18s pretty much apply equally to a C22. You want the jib (or genoa) to be fairly low. In fact my genoa p...

Re: Careel22 Champagne Baby for sale

The ebay listing expired without the reserve being met so no sale. Rather than repeatedly update the link above, probably easier for anyone interested to go to ebay and search on the word "careel". If the boat is still listed then the ad should pop up near the top. If this thread is still ...

Hi Don,

By this I assume you mean you've sold all the boats you wanted to sell and you're hanging on to Storm. So I'll move this ad to the "Sold" section. But if that's not the case, just let me know and I'll move this thread back to the "For Sale" area.
